The original plan was to stage the protest action later in the last week of November, or so we all thought. The news was spread by word of mouth. As expected, the administration immediately mobilized the management people to try and break the momentum that the workers were picking up in their drive to fight back. But the small group of workers that took the lead in rallying the workers expected such action from management that on the very last minute of the planning, we've decided to stage the protest the very next day to catch management off guard.
On November 19, 2007 at around 10:00 am, our small band of protesters assembled on the intersection of Alicia Parkway and the entrance to the Federal loading dock. Faced with uncertainties and the risk of losing our jobs, we armed ourselves with pickets signs and the First Amendment. We were not expecting any support from anyone else but when lunch time came, we were surprised to see an army of day shift workers marching down from the dock to the intersection where we stood. Workers from all departments came down to reinforce our little revolution. Although the Mailroom and Fileroom folks were not affected by the reclassification and pay cut, they also showed up to support the others. Unity was born in a workplace where it seem unlikely.
